About CarrieCarrie Powell is a licensed & certified athletic trainer earning her B.S. from Lenoir-Rhyne (http://www.lr.edu), and her second degree in Emergency Medicine Care (EMC) as an NC paramedic, with a concentration in management from Western Carolina University (http://www.wcu.edu).

Where I came from before Swain |
Prior to coming to Harris Ortho & Sports Med & Swain HS in 2003, Carrie served several years as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Collegiate Men’s soccer, Football, Men's basketball, Women’s softball, and Volleyball. Carrie has also worked several years as the Head Athletic Trainer for two High Schools in Hickory via a local orthopedic group.

Besides being a certified athletic trainer, Carrie's rare and extremely valuable background in Emergency Medicine/Paramedic's. She is heavily involved with Swain County Schools' (HS, MS, East Elem., West Elem.) AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and EpiPen /Anaphylaxis program and Swain County Safe Schools'.
Carrie also helps coordinate the school sports physicals, football coverage for SCHS and team physicians. She is an NCHSAA (North Carolina High School Athletic Association) certified NWCA OPC – Assessor for wresting. Carrie also holds a deep and vast orthopedic/sports medicine background of over 20 years. Carrie has a strong interest in concussions and a deeply rooted background with ImPACT (http://www.impacttest.com). Carrie also serves as Carolina West – Sports Medicine’s “ImPACT system manager”. Carrie is PROUD to serve Swain County High School. |
